A to Z Organize Me

Articles - Sole Searching

Shoes.  We all have them and love them.  Some of us have more shoes than we wear.  Some of us have a few that we wear out.  Whatever your shoe situation is, it is time to do some Sole Searching.  We have shoes for all the different seasons.  Your shoes might range from:  slippers to sandals; flats to heels; and tennis shoes to boots.

This article is to remind/nudge you to get rid of the old shoes and make room for the new ones.  It is a good time to clean up some of them with polish or take them to the cobbler.  Listed below are simple steps to organize your shoes:

1. Take all of your shoes down and out of the closet.  Line them up in pairs.  First, weed out the ugly ones, uncomfortable ones, and the shoes you never wear.

2. For the shoes that are remaining, pick them up and look at the soles.  Are they worn out?  Is the heel torn?  Are there holes?  Look at the body of the shoe.  Is it torn?  Is it missing adornments?  Are they scuffed and worn looking?  If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, it is time to let them go or take them to a cobbler for repair.

3. There are several ways to organize shoes.  First divide them up by season and put the off-season and formal/dressy shoes in containers with lids.  Stack them up high and out of the way.  If you keep the original shoebox, take a picture of the shoe and tape it to the front or describe it on an index card and tape it to the front of the box.  Another way to store off-season shoes is in clear plastic shoeboxes with lids.  Since you can see straight through it, there is no need for pictures or index cards.  For the shoes you wear daily, there are several ways to organize them.

· Shoe bag hooked over the closet door

· Shoe bag hooked on the closet rod

· Several flat shoe racks that can be stacked high and across the floor

· Built-in cubbies

Storage and organization depends on the size of your closet and the amount of things in it.  By keeping your dressy shoes in boxes and up high protects them from dust as well as keeps them out of the way.  Set some time aside and get your shoes organized and cleaned up.  Imagine how easy it will be getting dressed in the mornings with the shoes you wear everyday at your fingertips.

Happy Sole Searching.
